Third series for Gina Yashere's Bob Hearts Abishola
Gina Yashere’s US comedy Bob Hearts Abishola has been renewed for a third series.
The British comedian co-created the show alongside sitcom king Chuck Lorre – the producer behind Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory and more – in 2019.
It currently runs as part of a Monday night comedy block on the CBS network alongside The Neighborhood, which has also just been renewed, where it attracts audiences of five to six million.
The series tells of the relationship between successful white buisnessman Bob Wheeler (Billy Gardell) and the Nigerian nurse Abishola (Folake Olowofoyeku) who cared for him after a heart attack.
As well as being a writer and executive producer, Yashere has a supporting role as Kemi, Abishola's best friend.
CBS executive Thom Sherman said: ‘We’re extremely proud of these two comedies and delighted to bring them back next season.
‘The Neighborhood and Bob Hearts Abishola masterfully blend humour with relatable and culturally relevant storylines, and are tremendous, successful Monday night anchors.’
Celebrating the news on Instagram, Yashere wrote: ‘Being able to still make this wonderful show in the middle of a pandemic, & to have people fall in love with our culture the way they have, is truly dream come true.
‘Oh, & to all those white boy comics back in the UK who laughed at me when I left & said 'no-one wants to hear her Nigerian stuff'.. ...IN YOUR FUCKIN FACES.’
It has also been announced that another Lorre series, Mom, is coming to an end after the current eighth season. The news comes after co-star Anna Farris departed late last year, although Allison Janney remained on board.
