Dave Chappelle is the UK's favourite stand-up on Netflix
Who else is in the top 20?
Dave Chappelle is the most watched stand-up on Netflix in the UK, new research has found.
He is followed by Jimmy Carr, Jack Whitehall, Frankie Boyle and Jim Jefferies
Only six of the top 20 were British, and only two were female – Iliza Shlesinger at No 14, and Ali Wong at 18.
However, the results have several provisos. Despite being newly released, they relate to the period January 2016 to July last year – and only cover views on laptops and desktops, about a quarter of the streaming service’s total audience, not mobile or set-top boxes.
Nevertheless, researchers at VOD Clickstream claim their analysis of 610 million data points is significant because Netflix is notoriously secretive about its viewing figures.
‘In the absence of any meaningful data coming from the streamers, this is the best we have,’ they say. ‘It’s a sad fact that there is more publicly available data on how things work in deep space than on streaming platforms.’
Chapelle also tops the global chart for most watched comedian, followed by Louis CK - perhaps surprisingly given his shaming over his sexual misconduct - then Jim Jefferies. Carr is No 8 globally, with Ricky Gervais at 11.
