Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of September 28, 2020

Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?

This week, the Tonight Show borrows a page from a 1970’s talk show, the SNL cast makes the late night rounds and Conan has a brand new rerun. Wait, what?

Jimmy Fallon has secured a booking that should be ratings winner for him all week long and he has a talk show from 50 years ago to thank for the idea. Back in the late 60’s and all through the 70’s, Mike Douglas hosted a late morning talk show from Philadelphia. What set “The Mike Douglas Show” apart from other talk series is that Mike Douglas was known for having a celebrity co-host who spent an entire week with him on the show.

This week, Jimmy Fallon is pulling a Mike Douglas by having the Korean music sensation, BTS on the Tonight Show all this week, Monday through Friday. The highly devoted and highly organized fans of BTS who are known simply as “Army” worldwide are sure to be tuned to the Tonight Show to watch BTS perform as well as serve as 7 new play-dates for any of Jimmy Fallon’s wacky games and sketches. BTS has scheduled the release of its next album, “BE (Deluxe Edition)” for November 20th.

Conan O’Brien has this week off, but has scheduled repeat episodes filled with some very funny guests. This week of Conan reruns begins on Monday with a replay of “Conan: Scrapisode” which is always billed as “a collection of never-before-seen show segments.” However, these never-before-seen segments airing on Monday, have all been seen before. This is a repeat of a “Conan: Scrapisode” from September of last year. This was very metta of Team Coco.

The rest of the week, Conan’s “Best Of” episodes have guests you’ll want to laugh with all over again. On Tuesday, Conan O’Brien welcomes Jason Sudeikis. Wednesday, it’s a replay of Conan featuring JB Smoove. Then, Melissa Villaseñor is the guest on Thursday’s Conan rerun.

As the political season heats up, so do some of our late night shows. On Tuesday, Donald Trump will face off against former Veep Joe Biden in their first Presidential Debate. That same night, Stephen Colbert will be live with the Late Show on CBS after your local news with all fresh material written on the spot while the Sunshine Boys debate it out with each other. Colbert will be joined live by Senator Cory Booker who will add his commentary on the debate.

Two comedians who are both known for their political opinions will also be around in late night on Tuesday night. First up, Kal Penn will be on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night. Kal was actually part of the President Barack Obama Administration when he served in the Obama White House Office of Public Engagement. Then later on Tuesday, Sarah Silverman who has never hid her distain for Donald Trump will be sharing some of that distain on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Tuesday night.

Thursday is SNL night on NBC. First, you can catch Saturday Night Live‘s co-head writers, as well the co-anchormen from Weekend Update, Colin Jost and Michael Che on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. The SNL comedy team will be talking about the new season of Saturday Night Live which kicks off this weekend on October 3rd. You can also catch SNL cast member Cecily Strong who is also returning for the new SNL season on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday night.

Speaking of SNL, on Friday night, former SNL cast member and comedy movie megastar Adam Sandler will be on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. Now checking his IMDb, it doesn’t look like Adam Sandler has any feature films coming out, either in theaters or on Netflix. So, why would Adam Sandler be showing up on the Tonight Show on a Friday night!?

Oh! That’s right! Adam Sandler has two teenage daughters, Sadie and Sunny. Maybe, just maybe Adam Sandler’s teen girls are fans of BTS who have teen girls, as well as many adults, screaming all over the world. Perhaps if the Sandman does the Tonight Show, his girls get to meet the band? We’ll see if this is all revealed on Friday night’s Tonight Show.

Then on Saturday night, it’s the night that SNL fans have been waiting for all summer long. A new episode of Saturday Night Live. It’s the 46th season premiere of SNL hosted by former cast member and comedy powerhouse Chris Rock. This will be the third SNL hosting gig for Chris Rock who was part of the show’s cast from 1990 to 1994. Chris will be joined by musical guest, Megan Thee Stallion.

There’s plenty of comedy to enjoy all this week in late night and that’s no debate.
