Matt Lucas has signed a deal with a publisher to release four new books.

The publishing house confirms: "Hot (potato) on the heels of the chart-storming Thank You, Baked Potato, Egmont Books is thrilled to announce a deal for four more books with multi-award-winning comedian, actor and The Great British Bake Off star Matt Lucas."

The first offering in the new four-book deal will be a family-friendly joke book called My Very Very Very Very Very Very Very Silly Book of Jokes, released on 1st October.

The publishers say: "Lucas' very first joke book is packed with hilarious jokes to outsmart friends and family including the best knock, knock jokes, classic one-liners and 'shaggy dog' stories that will have little ones barking with laughter - as well as a Hall of Fame of the very worst jokes ever. Jokes from fans also feature in the book which marks the start of a new author-illustrator partnership with Sarah Horne, illustrator of the best-selling Charlie Changes Into A Chicken."

The blurb for the book says: "If you're planning on reading this very very very very very very very silly book of jokes, there are some things you're going to need: Spare pants - In case you wet yours; Needle and thread - In case you split your sides; Large box - In case you laugh your head off (you'll still want to keep it, right?)."

Talking about the deal, Matt Lucas says: "I've loved working with Egmont Books on Thank You, Baked Potato. I'm delighted to be publishing four more titles with Egmont Books, including a very very very very very very very silly book of jokes!"

Melissa Fairley from the publishers adds: "It's lovely to be working with Matt again - he's such an exciting new voice in children's publishing. Kids are going to love his new joke book series!"

The news was announced on the same day that Channel 4 released a new image of Lucas in his role as the new host of The Great British Bake Off. Filming recently finished on the new series of the baking show. It will air on Channel 4 from later in September.
