The Windsors stage cast announced
The main cast of the West End version of Royal Family sitcom The Windsors has been announced.
Friday Night Dinner and Toast Of London star Tracy-Ann Oberman will be playing Camilla alongside the previously announced Harry Enfield as Prince Charles.
Taking the part played by Haydn Gwynne on screen, Oberman said: ‘Just the thought of playing Camilla PB in the Dallas-meets-The-Crown world is making me smile.’
Actors reprising their roles from the Channel 4 sitcom are Matthew Cottle as Edward, Tom Durant-Pritchard as Harry and Tim Wallers as Andrew. He joked: ‘How far is Pizza Express, Woking, from the Prince of Wales Theatre? I do love an after-show pizza.’
And Cottle said: ‘I am delighted to be returning to the role of Prince Edward, this time on stage (his natural home), so he can really show off his full repertoire of accents and funny walks.’
And of the new cast Crystal Condie will play Meghan, Ciarán Owens (Wills); Jenny Rainsford (Beatrice); Kara Tointon (Kate). Other parts have yet to be revealed.
Condie said ‘It’s going to be the best thing on since Suits.’
The Windsors: Endgame will open at the Prince of Wales Theatre on August 2, and has been written by the sitcom’s creators Bert Tyler-Moore and the late George Jeffrie.
The plot has Wills challenging his father for the crown and Camilla determined to see him off. Wills needs Harry and Meghan’s help if he’s ever going to triumph – but will they come back from California? And how will Beatrice and Eugenie ever clear their father, Prince Andrew’s name?
The stage version is directed by Michael Fentiman, who recently bought Amelie to the stage, too.
