Bafta for Inside No 9

Awards handed out tonight

Inside No. 9 has won the Bafta Award for scripted comedy.

Here is Reece Shearsmith accepting the award in person, with the rest of the team on video link:

His co-star and co-creator Steve Pemberton joked that accepting the award via video was 'like the crappest episode of Gogglebox'.

But he added more sincerely: ''We are so, so grateful. It's such a privilege to be able to go into people's homes and make them laugh, or shudder, or cry, or whatever. And we're so grateful to everybody who works on the show.'

Aimee Lou Wood won best female performance in a comedy for her role as Aimee Gibbs in Sex Education.

And  Charlie Cooper won the male equivalent for his portrayal of Lee 'Kurtan' Mucklowe in This Country the BBC comedy he co-wrote with his sister and co-star Daisy Mae Martin

His trophy was picked up by his dad, Paul Cooper, who also appears in the sitcom as Martin Mucklow – a character he is taking on a live tour.

Romesh Ranganathan won best entertainment performance for  The Ranganation , while The Big Narstie Show, co-hosted by Mo Gilligan, won for best comedy entertainment programme.

The other nominees in the scripted comedy category  won by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton's Inside No 9 were Ghosts, Man Like Mobeen and This Country.

It was previously announced that Sophie Willan had won the comedy writing prize for Alma's Not Normal in the Bafta Cratf Awards.
