Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of November 2, 2020
Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, it’s all about Election Day!
Now that November is here, at last it’s that time that we thought would never arrive. We’re finally going to be done with all those campaign commercials on television. Those non-stop ads that play over and over again in our nightmares will finally be silenced after Tuesday. Of course, the way campaigns kick off earlier and earlier, new political ads will probably start airing on Wednesday.
Programming note: Most of the network late night shows will be pre-empted on Tuesday evening. In place of your favorite late night shows, news coverage of the Presidential race will hopefully be coming in. The exceptions will be Comedy Central which has a special edition of the Daily Show airing at 11pm et. CC presents “The Daily Social Distancing Show with Trevor Noah: Votegasm 2020: What Could Go Wrong? (Again).” Trevor Noah and his super team of correspondents will have their own comedy coverage of what’s happening to the place we used to call America.
Meanwhile on Tuesday night, TBS is getting some mileage out of Conan O’Brien’s election coverage by airing “The Conan Repeat Election Night Special” at 11pm et on TBS. Conan and Andy Richter will help calm your nerves this week on Election Night.
The rest of the week, before and after the election results start coming in, our late night shows will have plenty of comedy and political guests. Sometimes they overlap. On Monday or “President Eve” as it’s known, Stephen Colbert will have his former colleague from the Daily Show as his guest on the Late Show when John Oliver (Last Week Tonight) stops by to go over any last minute details about the Presidential race we might have missed.
Also on Monday, coming off a hilarious appearance hosting Saturday Night Live, John Mulaney will be on Late Night with Seth Meyers. If you need some laughs this week and about half of us will, a John Mulaney interview is just what you need to smile. Other political guests on Monday night include Senator Elizabeth Warren on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon and Mayor Pete Buttigieg on the Late Late Show with James Corden.
Wednesday night, it’s possible that Jimmy Kimmel could have the very first virtual interview with the new President-Elect of the United States. Somehow the JKL booking team pulled it off and Jimmy Kimmel will be speaking with 2020 Presidential candidate Kanye West. Tune in to Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday to hear what the possibly new Commander-in-Chief has in store for the country.
Also on Wednesday, if the nation is still standing, former Senator and always comedian Al Franken will be giving his unique perspective on the Presidential Election results on Conan. He may even filibuster for the entire half hour if Team Coco allows it.
Then later on Wednesday night, watch for the hilarious Sarah Silverman on the Tonight Show. Sarah hasn’t kept it a secret who she was supporting during the Presidential campaign. She’ll have plenty to say to Jimmy Fallon the night after the election.
If you’re needing some comfort late Wednesday night after the results are in, James Corden welcomes Henry Winkler to the Late Late Show. No one is sweeter and kinder than the Fonz and he can make anyone feel better. Henry Winkler is a bi-partisan entertainer.
Thursday night, Jimmy Fallon reunites with his SNL co-worker Kenan Thompson on the Tonight Show. It seems like no matter what former SNL cast member you mention, Kenan Thompson worked with them. If Kenan was on the same show as Garrett Morris, it would be an SNL reunion.
Then on Thursday’s edition of Late Night with Seth Meyers, guests will include America’s funniest living humorist (relax Mark Twain fans, I said “living”), David Sedaris. This Tuesday, in time for Election Day, David Sedaris will release a greatest hits book, it’s called “David Sedaris: The Best of Me.” It’s a compilation of David Sedaris’ favorite, funniest and most memorable works, selected by the Sedaris himself. The book will be out just in time for holiday shopping. Hint. Hint.
Friday night, Bill Maher is back live with a new episode of Real Time on HBO. Bill and his panel will have plenty of thoughts on the Presidential Election results. It will be a miracle if Bill can wait until Friday to tell us what’s on his mind.
Finally, in a case of comedy history repeating itself, Dave Chappelle will be hosting the first, live, post-election edition of Saturday Night Live. If you remember four years ago, it was Dave Chappelle who hosted the SNL right after the 2016 election. The nation was stunned and Chappelle spoke to the country with remarks he later said he regretted. Let’s see what happens this time when Chappelle hosts SNL after the election.
Have a safe week. And if you haven’t already, remember to vote. Then if your candidate wins, you can laugh at the people who didn’t.
