Mae Martin's Feel Good scoops best comedy gong

Mo Gilligan also triumphs at Edinburgh TV award

Mae Martin’s Feel Good was named best comedy series at the Edinburgh TV awards last night.

Judges said of the Channel 4 show: ‘The writing is very strong, it’s funny but also respected and respectful.’

The semi-autobiographical series, which Martin created with  Joe Hampson, tells of her character’s experiences of Narcotics Anonymous and burgeoning relationship with George, a repressed middle-class English woman played by Charlotte Ritchie. Lisa Kudrow, Sophie Thompson and Phil Burgers also co-star.

The comedy, made by Objective Fiction, triumphed over fellow nominees Defending the Guilty, GameFace, Mum, Sex Education and Stath Lets Flats.

Elsewhere, rapper Big Narstie and comic Mo Gilligan were jointly named best TV presenter for their work with  Channel 4.
The jury called them 'anarchic, chaotic, unexpected and honest'.

The Rap Game UK was named best entertainment show ahead of fellow nominees  Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway,  Gogglebox, Hypothetical, Taskmaster and  The Graham Norton Show.

The Edinburgh TV Festival’s creative director, Stewart Clarke said in a statement: 'In a very challenging year it has been great to take a moment to celebrate amazing work and the amazing people in our industry. 

'It is testament to the tenacity and innovation of producers, channels, streamers, freelancers and a host of others, that there was such a formidable list of nominees and brilliant group of winners.'
