Who is On Late Night Tonight in Comedy: Week of October 26, 2020
Who’s on Late Night Tonight in Comedy?
This week, Dave, Rosie and Chelsea are back, Tuesday night is stand up night and SNL celebrates an annual tradition!
As we make our way through this week, we get closer to Halloween and Election Day. It’s hard to tell which one is scarier. All throughout this week, our late night hosts are not only welcoming political guests, but some of comedy’s biggest stars who are very well known for their political opinions.
Sascha Baron Cohen kicks off the week with a visit to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday. His new comedy sequel “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” is available on Amazon Prime and it includes a now infamous scene featuring President Trump’s very own personal counsel and America’s Former Mayor, Rudy Giuliani in a compromising scene with a young actress, which has everyone talking.
Also on Monday, Bill Maher leaves the comfort of HBO and stops by Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC. He’ll be giving his opinion on the Presidential race in its last days. Maher was one of the few people who predicted Trump’s victory four years ago in 2016. It might be wise to listen to what he has to say this year. Either catch Maher on JKL on Monday or on his own show, Real Time, on Friday night on HBO.
Jumping ahead in the week, on Wednesday, David Letterman returns to network television to talk to Jimmy Kimmel on JKL. Dave will be promoting his Netflix series, “My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman.” Of course, Dave will also have some thoughts on Donald Trump and Joe Biden that he’ll want to share with everyone.
Also on Wednesday, the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler will be making a rare late night TV appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. We all know Miss M’s divine distaste for the President who she’s called a “monster”, “stupid” and who she says should “rot in hell.” Of course, Trump has called Bette Midler a “washed up psycho.” Bette will have plenty more to say Wednesday on Late Night.
Finally on Wednesday, make sure there’s space on your DVR because Chelsea Handler is back in late night. This time, as a guest on the Late Late Show with James Corden. Ever since wrapping up her talk show “Chelsea Lately“, Chelsea Handler has gotten even more involved in social issues and she’ll be bringing her strong opinions to the Late Late Show on Wednesday.
Skipping ahead to Thursday, there’s another famous comedian making a visit back to network television. Rosie O’Donnell will be a guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers on Thursday evening. During her reign as America’s top daytime TV talk show host, Rosie was known as the “Queen of Nice”. Donald Trump may have a different opinion on that.
The Rosie v. Trump Feud goes all the way back to when O’Donnell took over the anchor position on “The View” back in 2006. A full 10 years before Trump was even elected President. Stay up to watch Late Night on Thursday. It will be worth it just to hear a how a woman from Long Island insults a guy from Queens.
Now that the political comedy highlights are out of the way, let’s back up to Tuesday night. That’s the night when three of the biggest names in stand up are booked on late night television. Bert Kreischer will be on Conan to promote his new competition series, “Go-Big Show” which premieres on TBS some time next year. Read more about “Bert Kreischer, King of the Drive In” and his TBS extreme talent show on the Interrobang.
Also on Tuesday night, Sarah Cooper who has become a social media sensation by mimicking some of Donald Trump’s more famous rants of idiocy, will be on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Meanwhile over at NBC, late night favorite Tig Notaro will be making another appearance on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon. By our estimates, this will be Tig’s 7th appearance on Fallon’s Tonight Show.
If all the division in America which has been even more amplified by election season, is too much for you take, enjoy Conan O’Brien’s show on Thursday night for a break from it all. His guest will be England’s own Simon Pegg. Just to hear an accent that isn’t American for a half hour, might feel good for a change. Simon Pegg will be promoting his new Amazon Prime sci-fi comedy series, “Truth Seekers.”
It’s a parody of the paranormal series genre and it’s produced by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, the team that brought you “Shaun of the Dead” and “The World’s End.” Nick Frost plays Gus, a full-time wireless service repairman and a part-time paranormal investigator while Peggy plays Gus’ boss. “Truth Seekers” is available starting Friday, October 30th on Amazon Prime.
Finally, on Halloween night which lands on a Saturday this year, John Mulaney returns to host Saturday Night Live. This will be the former SNL writer and current headlining comedian’s 4th time hosting Saturday Night Live in 4 years’ time. Each year for the past 4, Mulaney has returned home and turned SNL into an over-the-top extravaganza. “Mulaney Night” has now become a yearly comedy happening. It will be worth it to see how John Mulaney and the current SNL writers top themselves this time.
Remember if you’re going trick or treating be sure to wear a mask. And just to be safe, wear a mask over your mask this year.
