Seven Selfies With Kevin James Doyle

It’s a selfie world, and we’re not going to fight it anymore. So our series, Seven Selfies, asks an artist to share seven photos of themselves, taken by themselves, to share a day in their life. We’ve already featured Danny Lobell, Pete Dominick, Blair Socci, Doug Smith & Matt Wayne, Kurt Braunohler & Lauren Cook, Amanda Duarte, Aunty Donna, Emma Willman, Kate Willett, Ian Fidance, Gina Brillon, Erik Bergstrom, Shaun Latham, Ismo, Erik Rivera and for our latest edition of Seven Selfies, we’ve got Kevin James Doyle!

Kevin James Doyle just released his new full length hour special with Comedy Dynamics titled The 30 Year Old Virgin.  Doyle debuted the show on stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it was called ‘Jaw dropping, …Fantastic. Engrossing. Hilarious.’ by the Edinburgh Cultural Society. The special was filmed at the historic St. George’s church in New York is available across multiple platforms including Comcast, Amazon Prime Video, Spectrum, Apple TV, Dish, Google Play, DirecTV, Vimeo, and YouTube.

The special is about what happens when you have very rigid expectations about what your life will look like, and then dealing with things turning out very different. It is a story of heartbreak and horniness. For Kevin, that was saving himself for marriage, and then at age 30, breaking off an engagement.

Kevin James Doyle is a comedian, actor and writer from Columbus Ohio, based in New York City. Kevin is a co-host of The Bradshaw Boys podcast where three guys watch Sex and the City for the first time (chosen as one of Entertainment Tonight’s Obsessions). His underground comedy show Great Times that was a New York Magazine Critics Pick and featured comedians such as Jim Gaffigan, Mike Birbiglia, Ilana Glazer, Todd Barry and more.  On to the selfies….

#1 Do I have a pretentious coffee pour over set up? Absolutely. I am going to have a cup then celebrate the release of my special by going to some of the actual locations the stories take place.

#2. I think the spring quarantine gave me an early onset mid life crisis, so I bought a motorcycle from 1976 to get around the city.

#3  One of my favorite stories in the special is about this bench in Carroll Gardens park. I was sitting with my girlfriend deciding if we should break up or not when Philip Seymour Hoffman walked up. He was and is my favorite actor. All 3 of us talked for a few minutes. Rest In Peace greatest actor of our generation.

#4. My girlfriend and I were drinking wine in this park. We received tickets for open-container at this park. I offered to pay them. I forgot to pay them. Then there was a warrant out for both of our arrest. Oops.

#5. A 24 hour diner and homemade donuts? Yes please. I have spent many a long night here with good friends including the true hero of the show The Donut Man himself. We filmed a fun little coda at the end of the special here.

#6.  Sunny’s Bar in Red Hook Brooklyn is my favorite bar in New York. I met a girl on the subway and took her on a date here. And she was the last person I interacted with as a 30 year old virgin. And that is the final story in the show that takes a few more twists and turns.

#7  I finished off the day by going to have a celebratory drink with my friend and director Cory Cavin. We met and started hosting a stand up show at a bar in 2014 called Great Times and we’ve been best buds and collaborators since then.

Hope some of those pictures wet your whistle to check out my fully comedy special The 30 Year Old Virgin!
