The Fast Show could return as a live show
The Fast Show could return as a live show, say its creative team.
Speaking ahead of the broadcast of their reunion show, Just A Load Of Blooming Catchphrases, on Gold tonight, the core cast have revealed that they have held discussions and hope to reprise their characters and sketches in a theatre.
Interviewed in a webchat by the BFI last night, Charlie Higson, Paul Whitehouse, Simon Day, Arabella Weir and John Thomson appeared unanimous in their desire to reunite on stage for the first time since their 2002 Barry Humphries: Dame Edna's Farewell Tour. Mark Williams was the sole surviving member of the main cast not present.
When asked if The Fast Show might make a further comeback, Higson flatly replied "no", before Weir interjected: "Yes! I'm campaigning for a live show because we've been talking about that haven't we Charlie?"
"A live show would be great" added Whitehouse, who has recently written and starred as Grandad in the Only Fools And Horses stage musical. "I agree," said Thomson.
Higson appeared to temper the others' enthusiasm, when he said: "If they suddenly open up the theatres again and Paul, if you're not doing Only Fools And Horses, there's a big West End [of London] theatre free at Christmas, we'll go in and do a Fast Show panto."
However, Weir rejoined: "Even if it weren't a panto, we should do a live sketch show again. I don't think we'd ever get it together to do the television."
Whitehouse concurred: "I don't think we should [do another television show] but a live show, I think the audience would enjoy it."
Coming towards the end of the 44-minute interview, in which the cast reflected upon transplanting their best-known characters into the current era and paid tribute to their late colleague Caroline Aherne, Higson also teased a further reunion project in the works.
"It was great fun to get everyone back together again and to work with other people" he said. "Particularly I think we all enjoyed sketches where we were doing it with someone else ... Paul and I have maybe been talking about maybe trying to get us all together to do something new, which isn't The Fast Show but something else."
The Fast Show: Just A Load Of Blooming Catchphrases is on Gold tonight, followed by More Blooming Catchphrases tomorrow night.

If ordering from a UK store, please note that you are in Region 1 (DVD)/Region A (Blu-ray), whilst the UK is in Region 2/B, respectively. This means that many - but by no means all - may fail to play. Look for products marked "Region free", "All regions", "Region 0" or "Multi-region". Blu-rays may also be marked "Region A/B/C", "Region free", or variations thereof. You may also check whether your DVD/Blu-ray player supports multi-region playback (also referred to as "region free"), or whether it can be set to do so. There should, of course, be no problems with books, CDs, or other physical items.
